Contact and feedback

The world needs energy solutions and the Nordic countries have much to offer. This web portal presents some of the best solutions developed in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Browse, read and be inspired.

The Nordic countries generate 63 percent of their electricity from renewable sources. No other region in the world can match this.  We do have a lot of rain, mountains, forests and wind to work with, but crucially we have the technology to exploit these resources and a political framework that encourages innovation and the use of clean energy sources.

This web portal was set up to promote Nordic energy solutions to a broad international audience of decision makers from both public and private sectors. The content will develop continuously to present the most relevant energy solutions from the Nordic region, including energy efficiency solutions.

The site is divided into three interlinked sections: Commercially available energy solutions, public policy and performance, and research and innovation.

Our short history

In addressing the challenges posed by globalisation, Nordic governments are prioritising the issues of climate, environment and energy, research, education, training and innovation and cross-border freedom of movement, while simultaneously aiming to boost the profile of the Nordic countries.

Nordic Energy Solutions is one of 14 ambitious initiatives to tackle these globalisation issues and strengthen Nordic cooperation, set in motion by the 2007 meeting of the Nordic Prime Ministers in Punkaharju, Finland.

The project is led by the Nordic Working Group for Renewable Energy, established to promote the development of renewable energy in Nordic countries through knowledge sharing and cooperation projects.

Administration of the project, operation of the site and content development is handled by Nordic Energy Research, an organisation under the auspices of the Nordic Council of Ministers, providing funding and coordination of energy research, administrative expertise, network building and advice.

Until late 2010, content development and operation of the site was handled by the Center for International Climate and Environmental Research – Oslo (CICERO).
