The Nordic countries are investing 480 million SEK in a joint research programme to develop new technology in the period 2009-2013.
NEW TECHNOLOGY. The research ministers of the Nordic countries are investing 480 million SEK into the research and development of new technology in the period 2009-2013.
The Top-level research initiative was initiated in November 2008 in a meeting of the Nordic countries' research ministers. The joint research programme focus on climate, environment and energy. The Nordic countries are investing 480 million SEK into the research and development of new technology in the period 2009-2013. The aim is to make the region a world leader in environmental technology and climate research.
Six sub-programmes
The excellence in research initiative will consist of six sub-programmes:
- Effect studies and adaptation to climate change
- Interaction between climate change and the cryosphere
- Energy efficiency with nanotechnology
- Integration of large-scale wind power
- Sustainable bio-fuels
- Co2 - capture and storage
Research will also be conducted into advanced climate models and into the Arctic region. In the longer term, investments will also be made in health- and welfare research.
The initiative for excellence in research is being led by a Programme Board with members chosen from the five Nordic countries and runs in the first instance until 2013.
