Converting straw into electricity and ethanol

DONG Energy is at the vanguard of developing high-tech solutions that can convert agricultural residual products into propellants in the transport sector.

Improving electricity production and reducing oil dependency

DONG Energy is involved in the so-called IBUS Project, where biomass is used for extracting ethanol while the biomass is burned and used for generating electricity. Ethanol can supplement and replace petrol in the transport sector and thus reduce dependency on oil products. At the same time, biomass can generate electricity at a price lower than other carbon-neutral types of energy.

Excess biomass suitable for feed or fertilizer

By coupling the IBUS plant with a power station, the power station’s excess steam can be used for producing ethanol. The excess biomass from production can be used as feed or fertilizer in the agricultural sector, and the residue can be burnt at the power station to generate electricity and heat.
