West Coast Biorefinery

In January 2008 BioGasol, in collaboration with Pacific Ethanol Inc, was awarded a 24.3 million US dollar grant from the US Department of Energy (DOE) for design, construction and operation a «1/10 scale» cellulosic bioethanol plant. Pacific Ethanol is the largest West-Coast-based marketer and producer of ethanol.

BioGasol's proprietary process technologies will be integrated with an existing corn to ethanol plant in Boardman in Oregon State. The demonstration plant in Boardman will be the first cellulosic ethanol plant in the northwest of the United States. The annual production will reach 2.7 million Gallon of ethanol from a diverse mixture of biomasses that are readily available in the region, such as wheat straw, wood chips and corn stover. Besides ethanol the plant will produce biomethane and a solid fuel.

The research partner in the West Coast Biorefinery project is the Joint BioEnergy Institute from the Lawrence Berkley National Laboratory and Sandia National Laboratory in California, US.
