The Seabased Group consists of the mother company Seabased AB and the wholly owned daughter companies Seabased Industry AB and Seabased Energy British AB. Headquarters, together with the development department, are situated in Uppsala, Sweden. A production unit is located in Lysekil. The mother company Seabased AB is the holder of all patents and other immaterial rights that are the foundation of Seabased's operations.
World leading
The company was founded in 2001 and was originally an innovation and patent holding company closely associated with the research being done at the Swedish Centre for Renewable Electric Energy Conversion at the Angstrom Laboratory, Uppsala University. They lead the world in generator design and the research is directed by Professor Mats Leijon who together with Associate Professor Hans Bernhoff are the founders and majority owners of the company. Seabased Industry AB is the operative unit of the group and is engaged in industrial research and development as well as production, marketing and environmental analysis.
World's largest
In februrary 2010 the Swedish Energy Agency granted financial support to build a full scale wave power plant off the coast of Smögen in Sotenäs, Sweden. The plant will be the biggest of its kind in the world.
