Nordic Built in North America
The Nordic pavilion at Greenbuild 2011 in Toronto was a popular attraction for conference participants, showcasing a number of solutions that demonstrate the region's leading edge within green buildings and sustainable construction.
The world's largest conference and expo dedicated to sustainable construction.
The Greenbuild conference, which took place over the 4-6th of October, is a leading venue in the sustainable building sector. The conference and exposition is dedicated to sustainable building, and this year more than 200 000 guests and 1000 exhibitors found their way to the enormous convention centre. The Nordic region was represented by a common pavilion, where around 30 cutting-edge cleantech companies showcased examples of innovative Nordic solutions for buildings of the future. Nordic Built was also represented at the pavilion, a new innovation programme that provides a uniting platform for the Nordic climate-friendly building sector.
Nordic Built
The Nordic Built programme, led by Nordic Innovation, aims to demonstrate how the Nordic building sector is a leading force within sustainable building in a global perspective, and create
competitive sustainable concepts for the future built environment. Nordic Built board member, Ole Gustavsen of acclaimed Norwegian architcture firm Snøhetta, presented the King Abdulaziz Center for Knowledge and Culture project. This centre is a gift from the Aramco oil company to the Saudi Arabian people, and the building adheres to rigorous environmental standards. From the library in Alexandria to the Ground Zero memorial in New York,
Snøhetta is a leading example of the Nordic sustainable building sector.

The Opera House in Oslo is another of Snøhetta's buildings
Bright Green Island
Other examples of solutions from the pavilion include the Danish island of Bornholm. The island experienced an economic decline for several years, until they took a bold step to become sustainable by 2014. The visionary and holistic approach of the Bright Green Island of Bornholm envisions the island as an attractive green island based on 100% sustainable, renewable energy – an island community which is environmentally and ethically responsible in all its actions.
