Denmark's goals for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions

Denmark is committed to reduce its emission of greenhouse gases by up to 21 percent by 2012.

 

Denmark has ratified the UN Kyoto Protocol, which requires Denmark to reduce its emission of greenhouse gases by up to 21 percent by 2012 compared to the level in 1990.

The Danish government in a press release in January 2009 said it is determined to meet international obligations to cut emissions.

The deficit between expected Danish emissions of CO2 and the target Denmark is committed to achieving is 13 million tonnes for the period 2008-12. The allocation plan documents how this deficit will be reduced to zero:
