Nordic cooperation on electricity
Nordel is the collaboration organisation of the Transmission System Operators (TSOs) of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
Nordel shares the EU vision of an efficient European electricity market with high power system security.
Nordel's mission is to promote the establishment of a seamless Nordic electricity market as an integrated part of the North-West European electricity market and to maintain a high level of security in the Nordic power system.
A major part of Nordel's work is carried out by three committees and their working groups. The Operations Committee, Planning Committee and Market Committee consist of the leaders responsible for the corresponding issues within the TSOs. The working groups are composed of the TSOs' specialists.
After June 2009 Nordel will be liquidated and its tasks will be transferred to the new European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E).
