Supporting Solar Cells

The Swedish government has decided to give financial support of up to 60 % of investment costs to any public or private organization, as well as individuals that wishes to install solar cells. The effort is meant to increase the share of solar energy in Sweden as well as create jobs.

The support for solar cell installations on public buildings has been a great success in Sweden, and contributed to many high profiled installations.

- Now we are taking the next step, and introduce a general economic support to any business, organization and engaged individuals who want to install solar cells, says Maud Olofsson, Minister of Enterprise, Energy and Communication

Support is given to any photovoltaic system that is connected to the grid, and is initiated after 01.07.2009 and completed before 31.12.2011. The government will cover a maximum of 60 % of your costs, while big companies will get a maximum of 55 % of costs covered. Each installation will get a maximum of SEK 2 million in financial support. The support also covers hybrid installations that generates both electricity and heat from solar power.

So far the initiative has been a great success. The first week the county administrative boards recived more than 100 applications for a total amount of approximately SEK 100 million
