Optimising production of biogas

Bioprocess Control believes that an efficient biogas process starts with an optimised process design and continues with support during the operation of a biogas process.

Bioprocess Control is a privately held company and market leader in providing technologies and services that support the efficient design and operation of biogas processes. The company was founded in 2006 with the intention of bringing to market the results of 5 years of research in the area of instrumentation, control and automation of anaerobic digestion processes by world leading researcher Dr. Jing Liu.

Bioprocess Control's flagship supervisory and control application Biogas OptimizerTM was selected as the top Swedish Clean Tech innovation of the year in 2007 for its ability to both accelerate and improve the stability of biogas processes. Biogas OptimizerTM was subsequently commercially launched in 2008 along with a portfolio of product and service concepts for both customers and partners.

Biogas facts from Bioprocess Control:

  • The production of biogas from dedicated crops yields more energy per hectare than any other biofuel production path.
  • Compressed biogas (CBG) is the most climate friendly of more than 70 different fuels and is considered to be CO2 neutral.
  • Technologies to purify biogas to natural gas standards (97% methane) are now readily available, which allow for upgraded biogas to be directly fed into natural gas grids for distribution and used as a fuel for vehicles, heating or electricity generation.
  • Biogas can be produced from a wide variety of available organic materials and wastes, including sewage sludge, animal manure, municipal/industrial organic waste, stillage from ethanol production, crop residues, and specially grown energy crops.
  • The efficient production of biogas has a positve impact on not only energy security but also the economic development of both urban and rural communities.
  • Overall, the adoption of gaseous fuels such as biogas is a natural step towards a hydrogen based society and sustainable waste treatment system.
