Biodiesel

Perstorp BioProducts AB's RME plant is one of Europe's most modern and efficient biodiesel plants.

The bulk of Perstorp BioProducts' products are biofuels. The value chains for biologically derived products have not been optimised yet and since biofuels can be sold with a margin right now that seems to be the best way to start.

Biofuels production gives many co-products or by-products and that is an advantage for those who can find applications for them. For example, an ethanol plant is known to produce animal feed, fertilisers and other products. There might be other applications for these co-products.

In 2007 Perstorp acquired the bio-oil business TallOil, thereby adding yet another product area to its range of bio-fuels.

Perstorp BioProducts was founded in January 2008. The plans to start this entity had been discussed in Perstorp for many years. When Perstorp was founded 1881 the first products were charcoal, tar, wood alcohol and acetic acid. The feedstock then was almost entirely biomass. So moving into biofuels and bioproducts is a way for Perstorp to move back to its roots and gain momentum for another 100 years of great development.
