Stockholm based Saxlund International, a subsidiary of the Swedish energy and environmental technology group Opcon AB, delivers a new bio boiler to a paper mill in Skåpafors. The paper mill is run by Duni subsidiary Rexcell Tissue & Airlaid AB, and the boiler will be operational by mid 2010.

- The bio boiler will reduce our environmental impact as well as our energy costs, says Patrik Söderstjerna CEO at Rexcell Tissue and Airlaid AB.

The advanced 5m$ bio boiler will reduce fossil fuel consumption substantially, as much of today’s oil and electricity will be replaced. The benefits are twofold: the paper mill will not only greatly reduce its CO2 emissions, but it also makes the mill able to handle its own biological waste. Instead of sending the fiber sludge from their manufacturing process to the landfill, it will be used to produce renewable energy. The boiler will also be fueled by forestry waste. According to Tomas Wendt at Saxlund this is a solution we will see more of in the future.

- It is a profitable investment that pays itself quickly. And the plant avoids expenses and difficulties associated with waste handling at landfills.
