In the Danish town Vejle you find ten passive houses, the result of an idea that came to Erling Jessen on a beach in the south of France summer 2006. Jessen wanted to gather all Danish competence on passive houses in one spot, involving in the process anyone interested. This way he would show that it was possible to build passive houses in Denmark, respecting local building traditions and materials. It should be ten comfortable houses for ordinary people. Comfort should be a priority because energy efficiency is "not enough to generate interest", he reasoned.

Low energy consumption

A year later ground broke on Denmark’s largest development project of single-family houses with no heating systems and with an optimal indoor climate. Komfort husene, Comfort Houses in English, contain the answers to current energy and environmental issues:

  • The energy consumption for heating is close to zero
  • The contribution to carbon emissions is therefore
    very low
  • Home comfort, including indoor climate and low allergen
    content, is high

KOMFORT HUSENE therefore have the potential to shape the concept of future Danish single-family houses, focusing on increased comfort and environmental sustainability.
