IVT has for many decades worked with heat pump technology, and is now one of the leading companies in the world in this field. The basic technology, known since almost a century, is to use the energy created from the sun stored in rock, soil or air for heating.
HEAT PUMP. In a heat pump energy is taken from rock, ground or air and used to heat radiators or hot water.
The heat pump - an inverted fridge
The technology used is exactly the same as the one used in normal refrigerator. With the help of a compressor energy is moved from one location to another.
In a heat pump energy is taken from rock, ground or air and used to heat radiators or hot water. The stored energy has a temperature too low for heating purpose, and the heat pump will raise the temperature to the level needed for heating.
The technology is now well matured, and the heat pumps sold today can usually give around 4 kW of heat energy to the building for 1 kW electrical input to the compressor. The energy “taken” by the heat pump will be replaced by energy from the sun. The replenishment is in fact more than thousandfold, so there is no negative effect whatsoever on the climate.
Expanding markets
Although heat pumps have been used extensively in Scandinavia, Switzerland and Austria it has been rather unknown in the rest of Europe.
However, over the last decade heat pumps have become very effective. 1 kW input in most cases give more than 3 kW output. As a result of this, heat pump markets in Europe are growing at a very high speed, especially in Germany and France.

• Since it uses stored solar energy it works around the clock, around the year
• Will give >4 kW of heat energy for 1 kW of electrical input
• Can be combined with solar systems for even higher utilization of solar energy
