Steam recovery
Steam recovery is a growing area of interest for many industrial applications. Processes used in building systems and certain industrial production sites, such as ethanol plants for alternative fuels, produce excess steam, which often is wasted. By recovering this steam, customers can effectively use it for other power generation purposes.
Innovative grid connection
A growing trend, specifically in the building systems business, is the ability to interconnect local generating resources to the grid, rather than to have them as solely back-up devices. Yet most utilities do not allow the connection of a synchronous generator to its grid without a very elaborate and expensive approval process. It is somewhat easier to get interconnection permits for induction generators. However there is still concern about the short-circuit contribution from such a generator in case of a grid fault.
A converter-based system inherently offers interconnection capability while eliminating the short-circuit contribution to the grid.
