Iceland Drilling Ltd has many decades of experience in both high and low temperature drilling. The company possesses a fleet of new hydraulic rigs and modern drilling equipment that can be transferred swiftly from one part of the world to another.

Iceland Drilling operates internationally and with the record of drilling several hundreds of geothermal wells, the company has well-grounded expertise in international drilling.
Iceland Drilling Ltd provides Integrated Drilling Services for all onshore Geothermal projects, as well as drilling services in other sectors.

High Temperature Drilling

ID is a leading high technical company in the field of high temperature geothermal drilling in volcanic areas.

Geothermal Low temperature drilling

ID has many decades of experience in low temperature drilling in Iceland. The company has drilled most of the low temperature holes in Iceland and has a drilling fleet suitable for low temperature drilling from 200-300 meter deep wells down to 2.500-meter deep wells. Low-temperature drilling is different from high-temperature drilling as both the temperature and the pressure are much lower. However, there is need for caution as there is often a substantial amount of water involved which can exceed the temperature of 100°C.  ID  offers both convenient equipment, including topdrive rigs and experienced employees.

Exploration Drilling

Core drilling for site investigations for various civil works projects, has been one of our major exploration drilling projects during the last few years. In the last decades the continuous wire-line coring technique has been exclusively adopted, along with special a packers for leakoff tests.

Other Drilling

ID  has applied air drilling since the early eighties. For this purpose, a fleet of high-pressure air compressors is used in combination with down-hole hammers. Air drilling has led to a 5-10 fold increase in the rate of penetration in hard crystalline rocks.
