NordSESIL - sustainable energy in isolated areas
The NordSESIL network is assisting communities in isolated areas of the Nordic Region to improve their access to more sustainable energy solutions.

Communities in isolated parts of the world are particularly challenged in using conventional fuels such as oil, coal and gas, with long distances and limited resources and services becoming additional barriers when trying to maintain cost-effective, reliable and sustainable energy services in areas that are more remote, and perhaps a little tougher, than most.
Improve capacity to access sustainable energy
The significant global investment in more sustainable energy generation, supply and management technologies has created a wide range of options for communities to consider as alternatives to fossil fuels. The NordSESIL network will improve the capability of energy-using communities in isolated areas of the Nordic region to access sustainable energy solutions by creating and stimulating a network of relevant and motivated stakeholders.
Knowledge sharing
The NordSESIL network will provide a framework for communication and knowledge sharing and become a forum for motivated participants who want to find and access relevant partners and the knowledge and skills required to 'get sustainable energy projects happening' in isolated areas of the Nordic region.
The NordSESIL network is financed by Nordic Energy Research, and is hosted by the UNEP Risoe Centre for Energy, Climate and Sustainable Development at the Danish Technical University in Denmark. Existing and invited members of the network include energy using communities, local, national and regional government authorities, research institutions, education providers, technology developers, and Nordic and international industry partners.
