Seatower was founded in 2007 in Oslo, Norway, by a team with extensive experience from the offshore sector. With them they brought expertise and technology that will transform the offshore wind sector, through the application of proven offshore technologies.

Since its inception, Seatower has reached a number of milestones. The first patents for Cranefree™ offshore wind foundations were submitted in the spring of 2007 and awarded in January 2009. The Cranefree solution means that the windmill foundations are self-floating and can be installed without the use of cranes. The Cranefree foundations are available only from Seatower AS.

The concept was finalized during the autumn of 2008, complete with complete with installation and fabrication methods. At the same time, Seatower was awarded an industrial R&D contract by the Norwegian Research Council, with the aim of continued improvements to offshore wind foundations technology and logistics.
