Wind turbines for a harsh costal climate

ScanWind Group is a producer of wind turbines of 3.5-4 MW for onshore and offshore use. The design consists of a direct driven, variable speed turbine with a permanent magnet generator.

The ScanWind turbines are suitable for rough costal climate and are produced for wind class IEC IA/s.  The turbines operate without gears. This direct drive feature requires less maintenance, causes fewer errors and makes the turbines extremely cost effective. The turbine components are all standard equipment. This makes it simple to acquire parts when needed.

ScanWind's unique technology

ScanWind's 3.5 MW turbine is the only turbine of its size that has undergone many years of testing in tough Norwegian wind conditions. The objective was to develop a completely new wind power concept for use in areas exposed to strong winds, turbulence, salty atmosphere and limited accessibility. Results have shown that the reliability of the product is very good.

The use of own lifting system for the erection of the turbines

Installing large turbines in hilly terrain or on small islands is particularly challenging. ScanWind has developed a unique solution that can erect wind mills even in strong wind. The lifting system requires minimal ground space, which in turn lessens the impact on the environment.

The ScanWind Group AS's headquarters is in Trondheim, Norway and a subsidiary is located in Karlstad, Sweden. The assembly plant is in Verdal, 90 km north of Trondheim. ScanWind is owned by Morphic Technologies (80 percent) and Nord Trøndelag Elektrisitetsverk, NTE (20 percent).
